• Medicine is the study of disease and what causes men to die. Chiropractic is the study of health and what causes man to LIVE.

Chiropractic Philosophy – The Main Premise

The major premise of chiropractic is that there exists a Universal Intelligence that gives all matter its properties and actions. This is the foundation of Stevenson’s 33 principles that guide chiropractic care. This is what separates Principled, subluxation based, structural correction chiropractic care from the pain-based model. This principle establishes our WHY: why do we adjust. We deliver an adjustment to restore the connection of Universal intelligence with innate intelligence.

The first principle states that a Universal Intelligence is present in all matter and continually gives it all its properties and actions. This Universal Intelligence maintains the existence of all matter. Now I believe this Universal Intelligence to be God. You don’t have to agree with me, but the fact of the matter is that there is an Intelligence that is IN all living things and works ON all living things.

In living things, this means that an inborn wisdom guides our bodily functions, allows us to adapt, heal, and maintain health. This intelligence coordinates the nervous system, which controls and communicates with all of the other systems of the body: circulatory, respiratory, digestive, immune, reproductive, and musculoskeletal.

Vertebral subluxations interfere with the expression of this intelligence by impeding or interfering with nerve flow. Nerve flow = Life Flow. Principled chiropractors detect and correct these subluxations through specific, scientific adjustments. This removes the interference, allowing the body’s innate wisdom to fully express itself once more. This principle provides the basis for why chiropractors focus on subluxations. By correcting them, we allow the body’s innate intelligence to flow freely and naturally return the body to proper FUNCTION = health.
